Applications for new coal blocks to be invited soon
Union minister of state for coal, power and mines Piyush Goyal said although the coal block allocated to Goa was cancelled following the Supreme Court-'s orders, applications for new coal blocks will be invited soon. The apex court in its judgment dated August 25, 2014, and September 24, 2014, had cancelled the allocation of 204 coal blocks, including Gare Palma Sector III coal mine, which had been allocated to Goa industrial development corporation on the grounds that the allocation mechanism was non-transparent and discretionary. Goyal said allocation of new coal blocks will be made as per norms specified under the Coal Mines Special Provision Act 2015 and the Mines and Mineral (Development & Regulations) Act, 1957.
