MNRE's programme for remote villages
The Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Farooq Abdullah, told the Rajya Sabha that his Ministry (MNRE) had been implementing Remote Village Electrification Programme for providing financial support for basic electrification in villages hamlets.
These remote villages are those where grid extension was not found feasible by the State Governments, and hence were not covered under the Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY), the Minister said.
He stated that State-wise targets were not set under the programme and projects were sanctioned on case-to-case basis after proposals were submitted by the state identified implementing agencies as per the guidelines of the scheme. However, MNRE's overall target under RVE programme for 11th Plan was 10,000 villages.
Villages covered under RVE programme are not declared as electrified as minimal power is provided under RVE programme. The duration of RVE Programme was approved up to March 2012. The coverage of eligible villages was dependent on the non-coverage under RGGVY and the plan of the State Government. However, all eligible proposals received by the Ministry were sanctioned as on 31 March this year.
