GAIL commissions 1,000 km pipeline project
GAIL has commissioned a 1,000 km long pipeline project to transport natural gas from Dabhol in Maharashtra to Bengaluru. The state owned firm has set up the Dabhol-Bangalore pipeline with an investment of Rs 4,500 crore and is designed to handle 16 mmscmd of natural gas. GAIL has already started delivering gas to its customers in Bengaluru through the pipeline. Toyota Kirloskar Auto Parts was the first company to receive the gas, which it is using at its captive 6.5 MW power plant in Bidadi, near Bengaluru. Apart from Karnataka, Maharashtra and Goa will also benefit from the Dabhol-Bangalore pipeline. Gail also inked a gas transmission agreement with Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL) to supply 2.1 mmscmd of natural gas for its 700 MW power plant in Bidadi. The project is due to be ready by 2015.
