We are now focusing on HkVA segment

P Palaniappan, Senior Vice President and Business Head, Mahindra Powerol

Which are the DG set segments you are present in? What are their advantages/benefits?
We are present in telecom, hospitality, services, manufacturing, real estate, infrastructure, and institutional segments besides others. In telecom segment, we have held the top position over the last nine years. Apart from telecom we are one of the leaders in lower kVA power back-up segment; and are now focusing on the HkVA segment. To do so, we have planned the launch of our HkVA products soon. As far as advantages go, two very significant costs associated with DG based back up power, are cost of upkeep and maintenance and cost of diesel. Our wide service network (180+) and industry´s unique offerings like supershield ensure least downtime while keeping the comprehensive maintenance costs at the lowest possible levels.

Our engines are best in class when it comes to fuel consumption as they are designed and developed utilising state-of-the-art research capabilities of Mahindra Research Valley. Additionally, this MRV capability also gives us an edge in terms of reliability, design and better (lower is better) noise, vibration and harshness (NVH). These characteristics make our DG sets more silent, durable and pleasant for the environment, while having one of the best block loading capacity. Further having synergies with auto, tractor and truck engines, we are agile and flexible when it comes to introducing state-of-the-art technologies for the benefit of our customers.

What are the sectors you cater to mostly and how?
Telecom, hospitality and residential - managing costs and providing better services to ensure highest availability for our customers.

How global benchmarking and standards help in energy efficiency and higher benefits to customers?
Benchmarked to deliver: We follow global benchmarking in quality and standards. We are the only genset manufacturing company to have won the Deming Prize, Japan. Deming is the highest level award given for total quality management by JUSE (Union of Japanese Scientists & Engineers). Low in Noise: Noise measured with reference to ISO 8528-10:1998(E) at one meter distance is 72.5 dB(A) which is much lower than the prescribed norm of 75dB (A) in spite of having low footprint. Besides, excellence in product packaging, a patented technology of Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd, in the name ´fluted silencer´ has made this possible.
Low noise with low footprint has offered a unique value package to customers.

What are the emerging trends in DG set technologies. What is your contribution to R&D of DG sets?
We have launched a new engineered canopy, this is designed at our state-of-the-art R&D center, Mahindra Research Valley, Chennai. The newly designed genset has many features like:
1.Aesthetically appealing and futuristically designed DG sets - 20 per cent more compact.
2.Compactness gives inherent cost advantage in logistics.
3.High block loading capacity enhances DG performance for sudden loads without compromising the fuel efficiency.
4.Modular cylinder head for easy serviceability.
