Union coal ministry is considering the recommendation of the Inter-Ministerial Group (IMG) on issuing show cause notices to coal miners for delay in developing the allocated blocks.
At its recent meeting, the IMG reviewed the progress of 56 coal blocks and suggested issuing show cause notices to around 40 coal blocks allottees.
Once the recommendation is cleared, the coal ministry would begin issuing show cause notices to the firms, reports indicate.
Among the allottees, the group recommended issuing show cause notice to Nakia I and Nakia II coal block alloted to Chhattisgarh Captive Coal Company and Morga -IV block alloted to Madhya Pradesh State Mining Corporation, among others.
IMG suggested issuing show cause notices also to Jindal Steel and Power (JSPL) and Nalwa Sponge Iron, who were jointly allotted Gare Palma IV/6 coal block.
Earlier this month, the coal ministry issued notices to allocatees of 30 captive coal blocks, including NTPC, GVK Power and Monnet Ispat for failing to develop the blocks on time.
