ABB bags Rs 55-cr order from TN
ABB, a power and automation technology group, has bagged orders worth around Rs. 55 crore from Tamil Nadu Transmission Corporation Ltd (TanTransco) to build a new substation in downtown Chennai. N Venu, Head, Power Systems, ABB India, said the order is part of a turnkey contract, wherein the company will design, supply, install and commission the substation. Key product supplies include nine bays of 230 kilovolt (kV) GIS, power transformers and 23 indoor switchgear units rated at 33 kV. The substations will also be equipped with IEC 61850-based open protection, automation and telecommunication systems as well as ancillary systems. The compact substation solution to be deployed in the congested Raja Annamalai (RA) Puram area, in the city centre, is designed to blend in with the surroundings, and a quick turnaround time will help minimise its impact on the surrounding area during construction.
