Evacuation woes

The wind energy sector in India has been growing steadily in the last one decade largely facilitated by favourable policies and regulations. We have a robust wind turbines manufacturing sector and with the best technologies available and with lower labour cost, India has started exporting turbines to other countries. Now, the maximum rotor diameters and hub heights have gone up and the new turbine designs are suited to Indian low wind conditions leading to an increased plant load factor. But to reap the full benefits of all these developments, better grid connectivity is a must, especially in states like Tamil Nadu, which is a wind major. Availability of the grid to evacuate power from generating stations to the point of consumption is a constraint for future growth of the segment in the state.
