Vijai hands over world's highest voltage power transformer
Vijai Electricals, Hyderabad, celebrated the handing over of the world's highest voltage rating power transformer to PowerGrid Corporation for their 1,200 kV test station at Bina (Madhya Pradesh).
At the function, C Damodar Raja Narasimha, Deputy Chief Minister, Andhra Pradesh, handed over the 333 MVA, 1,200 kV class, ultra high voltage power transformer to SK Chaturvedi, Chairman and Managing Director, PowerGrid Corporation in Hyderabad.
Commensurate with the government's plan to augment installed generation capacity and corresponding transmission corridors, the country will need 1,200 kV AC for bulk transfer of power of the order of 3,000 to 6,000 MW per line from generation complexes in East and North East to load centres located in Northern and Western regions. 1,200 kV AC shall be the highest transmission voltage (UHV) in the world.
To develop this frontier technology indigenously, PowerGrid took a lead to establish a 1,200 kV test station at Bina with an experimental line of 1.6 km and this transformer developed by Vijai Electricals will be installed at the substation. Jai Ramesh, CMD, Vijai Electricals, said, "Our company created history when its magnum opus, 333 MVA, 1,200 kV single-phase auto transformer was successfully developed with in-house technology, know-how and expertise at our world-class manufacturing facilities in Hyderabad."
