India asks private power plants to import coal to tackle crunch
As coal’s supply would get worst by August end, the government has asked private producers, who do not have a long-term fuel supply, to import coal. It is essential that the private generation companies have to review requirements and see if they need to import coal. The government has identified 34 plants with an estimated debt of Rs 1.8 trillion at risk. Also, wind and hydro generation may also fall at the end of August and increase the demand from coal-fired plants.
