Coal crisis hits Nalco power plant
Due to a short supply of coal from Mahanadi Coalfields (MCL) mines, 1,200 MW Nalco Captive Power Plant (CPP) is going through a coal crisis. In order to maintain the power supply to its smelter plant, the Navratna is forced to import 120 MW of power from the state grid. One 120 MW unit in CPP has been shut down and the stock at the power plant near Talcher coalfield has come down to 0.1 million tonne. If no solution is provided immediately, Nalco will be forced to regulate aluminum production.
