West Bengal will have to pay Rs.600 crore extra per annum for power
West Bengal state government will have to pay three times higher price for the power to be produced by two major upcoming hydro power stations of total 292 MW. Major credit for this escalation goes to political turmoil in the hilly region of the state over the demand of separate statehood. Price as well as time overrun of these two projects of NHPC Ltd, Teesta Low Dam Project (TLDP) III (132MW) and TLDP IV 160 MW are going to cause West Bengal state to pay over Rs 900 crore against initially estimated amount of Rs 315 crore after these projects start producing full fledged.
