BHEL develops 1,200 kVa transformers

RK Mahapatra, AGM, Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL), Jhansi said, "We have been successful in developing a 1,200 kVa transformer. It costs Rs 25 crore and can serve a population of five lakh if installed at a big power station." He said that BHEL has been exporting quality transformers to Greece, Jordan, Oman, Afghanistan, many Latin American nations, Tanzania, Iraq, Iran, Libya and Egypt. He said that BHEL has developed the control shut reactor which can be installed in power stations and control power fluctuations. This protects electrical appliances from getting damaged due to volatge spikes. He said that India is now the third country after US and Japan to have developed a super conducting transformer.
