Rathin Basu, Country President & MD, Alstom T&D India
Rathin Basu is a Country President and MD of Alstom T&D India. In this position, he is also on the Board of Directors for the company and a member of the Indian National Committee of Power under the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). He also holds second position among India’s most valuable CEOs in the energy sector and 10th position among India’s most valuable CEOs for five year performance, as per the survey of Business World in 2011. He began his career in 1978 with NTPC and then moved on to Cegelec India in 1985 as head of the energy division and was posted in the Cegelec Paris head office during 1986-87. He was appointed as CEO of Cegelec India in June 1989. In 1998, post Cegelec’s merger with Alstom (erstwhile GEC Alsthom), he was nominated as MD of two separate business divisions of Alstom T&D India – the turnkey systems BU (AC substation and HVDC substations) and the automation BU. He then moved to Alstom T&D Paris in a global role where he led the power distribution product line during the 2003-2007 period. He holds a bachelor's degree in Physics, honours from St Xavier’s College, Calcutta and a BTech Degree (Electrical) from Calcutta University. He also attended an advanced management programme at Instead, France, and a programme on global electricity markets at the London Business School. He likes to play cricket in his leisure time.
