Tangedco approves power development scheme
The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) has approved Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) for improving power infrastructure in 522 statutory towns, including 81 towns in delta districts. It will be implemented with the contribution of Union and State governments and Tangedco. The Ministry of Power will be the primary source of fund. It has formed a monitoring committee to implement the scheme and it has permitted Tangedco to execute the projects on department or partial turnkey basis. It is estimated that it would cost Rs.1,561.31 crore to implement the scheme in 522 towns, spread across 31 circles. In Tiruchi region, 81 towns in Pudukottai, Thanjavur, Tiruchi, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, and Karur districts have been selected for implementing the project at an estimate of Rs.225.14 crore.
