At times, there are quality and product life cycle support issues with such manufacturers. India is adopting legacy technology due to past experience and at times due to lower cost. However, the trend of using latest technology and product from organised sector is growing. Such technologies are available locally from the multinational companies like Hitachi Hi-Rel Power Electronics.<br /> &nbsp;<br /> <span style="font-weight: bold;">What are the emerging technologies and how they are set to impact pricing and efficiency?</span><br /> As far as UPS is concerned, Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT)-based rectifier is the emerging technology. However, poor grid condition and environment (higher ambient temperature and dust) are the major challenges. Of course, price and efficiency are higher, but that reduces the stress on grid or source. It helps reduce the total cost of operation.<br /> &nbsp;<br /> <span style="font-weight: bold;">What is your contribution to research development (R&amp;D) for these products and what initiatives can boost R&amp;D in this area in the years to come? What is your market focus in India?</span><br /> Hitachi Hi-Rel Power Electronics is engaged in R&amp;D of power electronics product like UPS, solar inverters, medium-voltage (MV) and low-voltage (LV) drives and chargers.&nbsp; Expats are also deployed at Hitachi Hi-Rel - Gandhinagar and Sanand manufacturing works, and we are developing the products for local and global requirements.&nbsp; Our vision is to position our organisation as one of the most admired companies in the world and a top power electronics player in India.<br /> &nbsp;<br /> <span style="font-weight: bold;">To what extent have we adopted standardisation? </span><br /> We are moving towards standardisation and global benchmarking, and at the same time we would like to fulfill the critical and essential needs of various industries with standard options.&nbsp; This will help us in meeting the required global quality standards and delivery requirements. Unorganised structure will continue to survive but the market share may remain stagnant or get marginally reduced.<br /> &nbsp;<br /> <span style="font-weight: bold;">What are the current trends in terms of offerings and utilisation?</span><br /> We are already executing many numbers of large projects for our AC and DC UPS systems for many of our valued customers across the country and globally for an array of industries like oil &amp; gas, power, minerals &amp; metals, pharmaceuticals, fertilisers, chemicals, plastics, textile, automobile, telecom, medical and healthcare, railway &amp; metro rail and many others. We are meeting industry requirements in totality and are expecting good business from oil and gas, solar, railway, smart city and other infrastructure projects too.<br />
