Barapitha becomes Odishas first solar light village
The National Aluminium Company (NALCO) Chairman and Managing Director TK Chand inaugrated Odisha´s first solar light village on October 02.
Joydeep Nayak, Inspector General of Police (SC and ST Protection Cell) and Khurda district collector Niranjan Sahu, were also present on the occassion.
Under the project, the tribal hamlet of Barapitha on the outskirts of Bhubaneshwar has become the first village in the state to have all houses lit through solar power.
According to Nayak, each household has been provided with two solar home lighting systems and facility to charge mobile phones and other devices, besides which, the village roads and school will have solar lighting and the village community centre has been provided with an LED TV, which also runs on solar power.
