BHEL-constructed thermal power plant under scanner
The 500 MW Anpara D thermal power unit in Sonebhadra district of Uttar Pradesh constructed by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited for UP Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL) has come under the scanner.
The State Electricity Regulatory Commission is seeking details of the plant, which cost over Rs 7,000 crore and was inaugurated by CM Akhilesh Yadav on March 31, 2015, but has been unable to run properly and tripped several times.
The unit took nearly 8 years for erection/commissioning, but has not been generating power even after having attained full load on June 6, 2015. A fresh attempt this month to fire up the unit also failed, raising questions about the unit´s quality.
Pursuant to a probe petition filed by the UP Rajya Vidyut Upbhokta Parishad, ERC secretary Arun Kumar Srivastava has written to the managing director of UPRVUNL seeking his reply within a week.
