Cos may be allowed to initiate action against imports
Domestic power equipment manufacturers may be authorised by the government to initiate action against Chinese equipment coming into the country. The move is to be considered by the government to counter the surge in equipment imports. In a related development, Heavy Industries Minister Praful Patel said that his ministry supported the demand of local equipment makers for the imposition of a 14 per cent duty on imported power gear. The government also set up a panel to assess the performance of the equipment before taking any decision on the issue.
