MSEDCL to get state subsidy of Rs.992 crore for 5 years

Maharashtra has signed a tripartite agreement with power utility MSEDCL and the Centre for UDAY, under which MSEDCL will get state subsidy of around Rs.992 crore to improve its infrastructure over the next five years. According to sources, the scheme primarily aims at reducing distribution losses, improving quality of power infrastructure, billing efficiency, reducing peak load and making provision for the required power demand.

The state government is expected to float bonds worth 75 per cent amount of the midterm and small term debt of MSEDCL (which is around 4,960 crore as on September 30), funds from which will be given as the stipulated subsidy. From FY2015-16 to 2020-21, Rs.992 crore will be given to MSEDCL as subsidy by the state in five instalments.
