PSEB suffers disruption in coal supply
The three power plants of Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) suffer disruption of coal supply because of agitation and economic blockade caused by by Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) against Panem Coal Mines in Pakur district.
Despite request from Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal, Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda has not intervened directly in the issue which is continuing for the last fifteen days. However, Munda directed the Chief Secretary SK Chaudhary and the home secretary JB Tubid to keep a close eye on the developments in Pakur.
The agitation was initiated by former chief minister and chief of JVM Babulal Marandi.The Congress which had earlier dissociated with the JVM on various issues has now joined the JVM agitation against Panem. The AICC secretary and Congress Jharkhand in-charge, Asha Kumari visited the dharna venue at Pachuara village, where Stephen Marandi of the Congress and Babulal Marandi of the JVM have been sitting on dharna for indefinite period.
Meanwhile, the commercial taxes and mines and geology departments agreed to send senior officials to Amrapara to probe the reported evasion of taxes and royalty by Panem. Recently, the departments received some documents submitted by the JVM Principal General Secretary Pradeep Kumar Yadav.
