J&K govt distributes 20,000 solar lights to beneficiaries
In Kashmir Valley, the Jammu and Kashmir government has distributed as many as 20,000 solar lights during the last financial year. The solar lights were distributed to the beneficiaries with 50 per cent subsidy component while as 70000 solar lights were distributed during last three years.
This was informed by officers concerned at a meeting convened under the Chairmanship of Jammu and Kashmir Minister of State for Science and Technology, Information Technology, Medical Education, School Education, Youth Services and Sports, Feroz Khan. He took stock of the distribution system of solar lights among the people living in far flung areas of the Valley.
The meeting discussed the distribution process and reviewed the overall functioning of the department of Science and Technology of the State. The Gujjar and Bakerwal community were provided 15,000 solar lights besides solar water heating system has also been established in various Gujjar and Bakerwal habitations.
On equipping the district and sub-district hospitals with latest power facilities, the meeting was informed that around 100 solar power plants were set up in various hospitals including Primary Health Centres of the Valley.
