Floods partly submerge Simhapuri power plant
Power generation at the 600 MW Simhapuri Energy´s coastal thermal power plant at Thamminapatnam in Chillakur mandal came to a grinding halt what with the entire premises being submerged in floodwaters for three days.
With the nearby Buckingham canal also in spate and overflowing its banks, the Simhapuri power plant received heavy backwaters as also in the surrounding villages. The flood waters rose to a level of four to five feet at some points with the crucial coal handling plant, boiler equipment, electrical installations and other blocks surrounding by water.
The scene is also bad at several other power plants located in the Chillakur mandal limits. The Krishnapatnam port has indicated red flag on the Nellore highway to the port in view of the precarious situation.
