AP plans to add 4,000 mw capacity by 2014
Andhra Pradesh plans to add 4,000 mw power generation capacity by 2014 and in order to attain this target, the state government has urged AP Power Generation Corporation (APGenco) to put the projects fast track.
The state government also asked Power Grid Corporation of India to complete connectivity between the southern, northern and western grid by 2013.
Minnie Mathew, Chief Secretary of the state government, in a statement, has already identified various issues hurting capacity addition in the state on ground of inadequate coal, natural gas supplies, reduced water levels in hydro reservoirs and limited transmission corridor facility as hurdles in meeting ever rising power demand.
The generating stations are able to utilise only 10,400-mw capacity (or 65 per cent), as against the total installed capacity of around 16,000 mw owing to the fuel crisis, Mathew stated.
