Delhi Government funds 90 per cent power component of Renuka project

The Delhi Government’s National Capital Territory (NCT) has agreed to fund 90 per cent of the power component of Renuka project over the Giri in Sirmaur district. With a total cost of Rs 46 billion, of which the water component costs Rs 43.2 billion will include live storage of 498 million cubic metre of water. The Renuka project, which will have the construction of a 148 m rock-filled dam over the Giri, will also have a power house that will generate 40 MW of power costing Rs 2,750 million. It was decided that water component will be shared 90 per cent and 10 per cent by the Centre and the beneficiary states, respectively. Himachal Pradesh will enjoy exclusive rights over power generation as it would not require any NOC for its water usage within the 3.15 per cent share of allocated water.

The decision was taken at a meeting which was held in New Delhi, under the chairmanship of Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation.
