Coal import cuts may save Rs.40,000 crore this fiscal
The government is aiming to save Rs.40,000 crore in foreign exchange on account of lower coal imports this fiscal. ´Last year (fiscal), we did saving of Rs.28,000 crore in foreign exchange. This year we are targeting Rs.40,000 crore,´ Coal and Power Minister Piyush Goyal said recently. India´s coal imports fell by 15 per cent to 15.9 million tonne (MT) in April this year. The imports stood at 18.7 MT in the same month last year.
CIL´s output is fixed at 598 MT for this fiscal.
