Apex court stays direction passed by high court

A three-member bench of Supreme Court stayed the order of Bombay High Court on the petition filed by social activist Kashinath Shetye regarding illegal mining in Goa.

Hearing the petition filed by the activist, the high court, on March 22, directed police to register an FIR against those involved in illegal mining in the state within six weeks. The high court had directed police to investigate in respect of offences alleged to have been committed by persons responsible for illegal mining in the state, including lessees of mines and those who permitted illegal mining of ore.

Shetye filed the petition based on the report submitted by Justice Shah commission on illegal mining in Goa.

Following this, the apex court stayed the high court order.
