India has 301 billion tonnes of coal
As per the Geological Survey of India (GSI), the total estimated quantum of coal resources in the country is 301.56 billion tonnes. However, with current rate of production compared to proved reserves of about 126 billion tonnes, this is expected to last for about 100 years. This was stated by Piyush Goyal, Minister of State for Power, Coal & New and Renewable Energy.
Goyal said that out of the running mines covered by the Supreme Court judgement, 37 blocks had produced 37.72 million tonnes during 2013-14. .
