NTPC commissions its first supercritical tech unit
India's largest power producer NTPC has commissioned its first supercritical technology-based unit at Sipat in Chhattisgarh. The 660 MW coal-fired unit was synchronised with the grid at Sipat. It is the first supercritical technology based unit of NTPC in India. The total project capacity of the Sipat project will be 2,980 MW when its all five units are commissioned. The NTPC already had two units each of 500 MW at Sipat that were made operational in 2008. It added another unit of 660 MW on18 February while two other units of 660 MW each will be made operational within the next 12-15 months.
