CCEA likely to modify decision on coal blocks

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) is likely to modify the earlier decision to give a go ahead to state governments for granting mining leases for coal blocks to companies if there is no CBI enquiry against them. The modification will be done in connection with the Supreme Court stance which has refused to split the coal blocks in categories where no cases have been registered and the mines where CBI is conducting enquiry.

For delaying coal production, the government has asked CBI to issue show-cause notices to the mining companies concerned. CBI has been asked to issue show cause notices to the mining companies, including the one jointly given to ArcelorMittal, Sterlite Energy, Lanco and Reliance Energy, to issue the show-cause notices. The Union government appointed inter-ministerial group (IMG) on coal blocks has recommended the issuance of the notices to the mining companies.

Coalgate scam: Govt hands over 769 documents to CBI

The Union Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal has stated in the Rajya Sabha recently that the government will make every effort to locate and supply the additional documents required by CBI regarding allocation of coal blocks.
