The Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission (TNERC) has been directed by the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity (APTEL) to circulate consultative papers before bringing in any new regulation or changes in the existing ones. Generation cost in imported coal-based plants to go up
Electricity consumers may have to pay more this year, due to the changes proposed in the Budget and the rail budget. In the Budget, Finance Minister P Chidambaram brought steam coal under the purview of customs duty. He also equalised duties on both steam coal and bituminous coal to levy two per cent customs duty and two per cent countervailing duty (CVD).
