Tata Power's generation capacity up by 8 per cent
Tata Power, announced that the company's generation capacity increased by more than 8 per cent in Q3FY17 as compared to Q3FY16. The company, together with all its subsidiaries and jointly controlled entities, has a gross generation capacity of 10,496 MW and a presence in all the segments of the power sector viz.
Sterlite Power achieves financial closure for transmission project
Sterlite Power Transmission Limited has achieved financial closure for its transmission project that will increase electricity supply to residential, commercial and industrial establishments in parts of Haryana. The transmission project will increase power supply by 2,000-3,000 MW to the energy starved region and strengthen the transmission network.
BDAI seeks VAT relaxation from states
Biodiesel Association of India (BDAI) has sought VAT relaxation on blending of biodiesel from states for promoting green fuel blending and energy security in the country. Currently VAT on biodiesel blending goes up to 24 per cent in several states and the Association has warned that if the states do not provide promotional VAT rate on B5 Blends, the biodiesel blending in retail segment would be killed.
Technology is the backbone of smart grids
Currently in India, the Ministry of Power (MoP) has decided to develop smart grid in stages by taking up pilot smart grid projects. MoP set up the India Smart Grid Task Force (ISGTF) and India Smart Grid Forum (ISGF) to help prepare a roadmap for smart grid rollout and 14 smart grid pilots were approved for execution
Govt nixes Coal-bed Methane project
The Tamil Nadu state government has denied permission to the Great Eastern Energy Corporation Limited (GEECL) to proceed with their Coal Bed Methane (CBM) extraction project, after accepting the report submitted by the technical experts´ committee constituted, under the chairmanship of the Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB), to study the impact of the project on environment, sea water intrusion, food security and livelihood of farmers in Cauvery delta region.
