Vedanta might bid for coal mines
Vedanta is planning to acquire coal mines via auctions to ensure fuel security for its energy-guzzling aluminium plants. The government has not finalised the dates for holding a fourth round of coal mine.

GSECL invites global firms to develop coal mine in Chhattisgarh

Government has rejected the request of Vedanta Group firm Bharat Aluminium Company Ltd (Balco) to accept its bid for the Gare Palma IV/1 coal mine in Chhatisgarh stating that it has no merit in it.

Mahagenco gets captive coal mine in district
Hard work by state energy minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has finally paid off with coal minister Piyush Goyal allocating a captive coal block to Mahagenco. The Mahajanwadi block is located in Nagpur district and has 340 mt coal.

No cartelisation in coal auction bids
A bid evaluation report by the coal ministry has reportedly found no conclusive proof indicating any collusive bidding, nor any complaint received about the e-auction platform obstructing bidders from submission of coal auction bids, a report said.

Will the black magic work again
Sample this. Coal India, the much-reviled public sector coal behemoth, produced 462 mt of coal last year, with all the much-publicised legacy problems that it faces. The top seven global (private sector) mining giants together produced around 700 mt of coal last year (see Coal output by global players). And all of India´s private players produced a mere 50 mt of coal in 2014.
