THDCIL and MoC, inked Allotment Agreement

DV Singh, CMD, THDCIL and Vivek Bhardwaj, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Coal, Govt. of India signed the Allotment Agreement for Amelia Coal Mine this month. UC Kannaujia, GM(SP) and Mukul Sharma, Sr. Manager (Thermal Design), THDC NCR Office Kaushambi were also present on the occasion with senior officials of THDCIL and Ministry of Coal.

As per the latest data by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), the peak power deficit -- the shortage in electricity supply -- in July when the demand was at its peak, stood at 4.5 per cent.

Tamil Nadu, which is facing power deficit of 4,000 mw, has decided to award a long term power purchase contract for 1208 MW to four companies at a levelised tariff of Rs 4.910/Kwh for a period of 15 years. The State's Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation is to award the contracts.

The Meghalaya Energy Corporation (MeECL) has announced that it has no other option than to resort to frequent load shedding to save power. The MeECL earned the ire of the public and lawmakers for its mismanagement in handling the power scenario of the state.

India faces peak power deficit of 12,000 mw in 2012-13

According to a report by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) India faced a huge power deficit of over 12,000 mw during the peak hours in the last financial year. Southern region was the worst affected by power shortage during the period as demand for electricity overshot by 6,052 mw against availability of 31,586 mw during the peak hours.
