Electric Vehicles (EVs) offer a promising technology pathway for cutting down oil use and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions on a per-kilometre basis. EVs can achieve 50 g of CO2 emission per kilometre compared to the conventional, internal combustion engine (ICE) cars, which emit between 100 and 150 g of CO2 per kilometre.

With the regulatory landscape for automotive industry transforming globally, India is incentivising the shift to electric mobility.

In April, the Ministry of Power came out with guidelines on how tariffs can be fixed at the charging stations. Presently, with another category of technical requirements being finalised, we expect a comprehensive set of guidelines to be out in the next couple of months.

The Chakradharpur railway division is likely to save around Rs 2.5 lakh annually in energy bills at three of its key stations, namely, Tatanagar, Rourkela and Jharsuguda.
