Transmission company with the highest growth in network creation last year (private company) Western Uttar Pradesh Power Transmission Company

Transmission company with the highest growth in network creation last year (state transco) - Uttar Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation
Demand Incentives of Over Rs 3 billion Extended Since FAME Rollout

Cover Story  /  October

Western UP Power Transmission Company (WUPPTCL) is an Indian non-government company. It's a public limited company and is classified as company limited by shares. WUPPTCL is majorly in electricity, gas and water companies business and currently, the company operations are active.

The WUPPTCL project is one of India's largest power transmission projects. MEIL has successfully executed this project and dedicated it to the nation. The total cost of this mammoth endeavour is Rs 41.5 billion. The execution of this project required stringent quality procedures, use of latest technologies and meticulous planning. This prestigious project from UP Power Transmission Corporation involves the construction of seven substations and transmission lines for a total length of 1,116 circuit km. The salient features of the project include 765 KV and 400 kV substations along with 765 KV single circuit and 400 KV double circuit lines. The project is being executed on BOOT (Build-Own-Operate-Transfer) basis with a maintenance period of 35 years.

The seven substations of 765 kV and 400 kVare are of two types: Air Insulated Substations (AIS) and Gas Insulated Substations (GIS). GIS involves the use of an inert gas like sulphur haxaflouride for insulation because it has a much higher dielectric strength than air or dry nitrogen. GIS is the latest technology attempted in India by MEIL. The project demands the use of advanced technologies like Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) system and Optic Fiber Ground Wire (OPGW) system which are approved by the SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition). A total of 200 of technical manpower and close to 1,800 of labor workforce have been deployed for the execution of the project.

In India, such big sub-stations of 765 kV voltages were designed, constructed and commissioned only by the government entity, i.e., PGCIL or by other companies on EPC basis. This is the first time in India that such big sub-stations of 765 kV voltages have been designed, constructed and commissioned by a private developer (MEIL) on BOOT basis.
