The second quarter 2011 results of JSW Energy were announced at the conference held at Taj President Hotel in Mumbai which was presided over by LK Gupta, Joint MD and CEO and Pramod Menon, Chief Financial Officer, JSW Energy. LK Gupta said, "The second quarter of JSW was challenging but it was also a quarter where we have achieved several milestones. We have synchronised the 4th and last unit of Ratnagiri and achieved commercial operation date (COD) in October 2011. With this the total 1,200 MW plant is operational. We commissioned the last unit at a time when this country was facing a severe power crisis and we were able to contribute our bit. The second major milestone which we achieved was that the Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission (RERC) gave interim ad hoc tariffs for our Barmer units and the Rajasthan state mineral and mining corporation, the lease-holder of the Kapurdi and Jalipa mines, has transferred the mines in favour of the Barmer Lignite Mining Company (BLMCL), the joint venture company of our group. So we have resumed operations at our Barmer plant in Units 1 and 2. We got the tariffs for Units 3 and 4. We have achieved COD for the third unit of our plant. With this, our three units of 135 MW each are fully operational." In conclusion, speaking about the power sector he spoke about the dependence on imported coal and the correction in coal prices, the government's attempts to improve the health of discoms and the improvement in prices in the power market. Summing it all up, he said, "Keeping all this in view, we feel the scenario for the power sector looks to be positive for now."
