Coal India (CIL) plans to sell 120 million tonne (MT) coal this year to power and non-power entities that do not have fuel supply commitment, buoyed by the excellent response to its forward e-auction in April. A bulk of this supply would go to the power sector where around 30,000 MW of plants do not have any coal supply agreement from CIL. These include power producers that have lost coal blocks and the ones whose supply contracts with CIL expire in July. To make things easy, consumers will have the option of picking up coal allotted over six months after auctions are completed.
