Indian Railways to build the world’s highest rail line

The world’s highest rail lines of 465 km, which will connect New Delhi and Ladakh, will be build by the Indian Railways at an estimated cost of Rs 833 billion. A strategically important Bilaspur-Manali-Leh line along the Indo-China border will be build by the national transporter.

ABB has won an order from Alstom to supply 1,600 traction transformers for 800 new electric freight locomotives in India. The new locomotives will expand the Indian Railways´ capacity, easing congestion on busy routes for both freight and passenger services.

Prime Minister asks Railways to Speed up Work on Coal Linkages

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has asked the Indian Railways (IR) to deploy additional resources to fast-track the execution of three new rail lines, which are expected to boost coal output by 300 mt by providing linkages to untapped mines.
