Sprinting on a Growth Track
The World Bank recently has put out a report in which the demand for electricity in India is growing at the same rate as in France or Germany as millions of people in rural or impoverished areas seek access to power in their homes and workplaces.
Leaps and Bounds
Transmission and distribution (T&D) losses, Aggregate Transmission and Commercial losses (AT&C), quality of power and fluctuation in power supply are some of the major challenges faced by Indian power utilities. This is despite not overlooking the fact that in the last decade, the country witnessed sizeable improvement in quality of power, especially in urban and semi-urban areas.
Adequate generation and transmission facilities are available to meet the demand. Now the focus is towards ensuring 24x7 quality power supply and access of electricity to all at affordable price in an environmental friendly manner.
