Blackouts under control
Just think of power going off while an important surgery is taking place in a hospital and it will not get back for a day or two. The kind of disruption an electricity blackout arising from grid collapse can cause is enormous for different people at various places. Grid collapse is the worst-case scenario for any transmission utility too.
Tata Power completes uprating of Kalwa-Salsette transmission line
Tata Power has announced the completion of uprating of existing transmission line no. 4 between MSETCL Kalwa receiving station and Tata Power Salsette receiving station (8 km route length) by replacing the existing conductor with high ampacity conductor (from 900 amps to 1,800 amps).
Grid connectivity and transmission facilities are still major issues
The rapid expansion of wind power in India has been driven by a combination of its environmental benefits and improving the cost competitiveness with other conventional generation of power. The steady advance in technology for the last several years has resulted in improvements in the wind power plants, particularly the components relating to utility interface, generator, the power electronic converter, etc.
We have planned to invest around Rs 10,000 crore
Surinder Kumar Negi, Managing Director, Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation (GETCO) says that the company has already enhanced transmission lines with an investment of Rs 4,350 crore during the first two years of the 12th Plan period.
With an addition of 20,000 MW every year, a lot of stress has been put on electricity transmission. But investments in transmission and distribution have not kept up with investments made in power generation.Despite having installed power generation capacity of 225 GW and power demand of 135 GW (as of May 2013), India faced a peak power deficit of 9 per cent (12 GW). Power shortages have adversely affected the country's economy.
