Centre asks Maharashtra to identify more mines for auction
Steel and Mines Minister Narendra Singh Tomar has asked Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to identify more mines for auction. Tomar met Fadnavis on the sidelines of the ´Make in India Week´ in Mumbai and discussed issues related to steel and mines sector in the state, the Mines Ministry shared.
Government to e-auction eight coal mines
The government has kick-started the process of online auction for eight Schedule III coal mines earmarked for non-regulated sectors like steel, cement and iron, after already mobilising over Rs 3 lakh crore in the first three rounds of coal auction and allotment.
Vedanta´s Sesa Goa opens its second mining lease at Bicholim
Sesa Iron Ore, a subsidiary of Vedanta Resources Inc, opened its second mining lease in the Goa to utilise its full annual production allowance of 5.5 mn tonne While Sesa had resumed work at its Codli mining site earlier, it recently opened its Bicholim mining lease, both of which are the largest mining leases in the state.
States to put 82 blocks for auction
The 12 mineral producing states will put 82 mining blocks containing minerals such as iron ore, bauxite, limestone under the hammer by October-November this year, a top government official informed.
Government reluctant to reserve manganese mines for end-users
In the recent mineral auction rules, which have been made according to the provisions of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Act, 2015 (MMDRA Act), the Centre has proposed to empower state governments to reserve the licences for bauxite, limestone and iron-ore mines to end-users, according to their necessity, but is reluctant to give a similar condition for manganese mines.
