The country cannot do without conventional fuels
Following the Paris Agreement for environment, GoI has stopped permitting new boilers of smaller size less than 500 MW for public utility and is reluctant about giving permissions to refurbish old boilers of less than 500 MW capacity. This has affected the BTG market adversely.

GE to power highly efficient thermal projects in south
GE Power India Limited (GEPIL) has been awarded contracts worth $40 million by BHEL to supply components and services for the supercritical steam generator island packages for 2x800 MW coal-based Uppur Thermal Power Project and 1x800 MW coal-based North Chennai supercritical thermal power project stage-III. Both the thermal power projects are located in Tamil Nadu.

CIL to boost offtake
Coal India´s (CIL) recently decided to reduce the effective price of higher-grade coal, while increasing the price of the lower grades to boost the offtake of higher grades, while making more money by selling the lower grades at higher prices.
