Waning hope for UDAY!
Although state discoms have managed to leverage UDAY by paring financial losses from Rs.51,589.51 crore in FY16 to Rs.34,826.87 in FY17, a marginal decrease in AT&C losses seems to be the bone of contention, as what has been envisaged has not been achieved yet, barring bailing-out non-performers.

Interruption of power supply has huge impact on steel plant
For a continuous process plant like an integrated steel plant, reliability and quality of power is very important. The quality of power is generally defined by the voltage variation, frequency variation, and number and duration of interruption.

India will soon embrace quality, like Japan did
Basically, all markets are the same, with a few exceptions. Many markets are based on the specifications and based on the bidding, then some rules are set, otherwise there is no big difference.

Set MEPS, keep inefficient products off market
Implementing regulatory framework to assess long term benefits is helpful in the promotion of rational energy use. Policy makers may consider the following steps:
Setting Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) will remove inefficient transformers from the market

Some companies are adopting global standards
Only about 10% of motor production in the country is adapted to IE2 & above level. The country is losing a great opportunity of energy conservation. With just shifting to IE2 level as mandatory, at current levels of motor production, in the fMEPSirst year itself India can save about Rs.500 crore.
