Media reports say, Chennai-based Indian Wind Power Association (IWPA), wind energy-focused industry body, has asked the Union government to re-introduce two fiscal incentives to help companies invest in the clean energy sector. With the state electricity utility Tangedco (Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation) not providing transmission lines for windmills, companies are finding it unviable to run them. And even several wind farm owners in Tamil Nadu are putting their windmills on the block. Many small wind farm owners are going in for distress sale as owning and operating farms is not viable anymore, said K Kasturirangan, chairman of Indian Wind Power Association (IWPA).
GAIL to set up 100 mw wind power plants in 6 states

With an aggregate capacity of 100 mw GAIL (India) is planning to set up wind power projects with an aggregate capacity of 100 mw in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. For the purpose, the company has sought offers from Project Management Consultancy (PMC). The proposed project is to be set up with modules of minimum 20, depending on the capacity of the offered machines.

Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) is to construct third wind power plant by appointing a consultant. The third plant with the capacity of 6.3 mw will cater to the electricity needs of Sarthana Water works and other water distribution centres of the city. SMC standing committee Chairman Rajesh Desai said that the appointment of consultant named Power and Energy consultants, a Delhi based firm, has been approved.

ITC powers its units with wind farms

FMCG major ITC is powering itself up with wind farm clusters. As it expands its wind power generation capacity, ITC gradually reduces its dependence on fossil fuels. Renewable energy contributes to over 41 per cent of the company’s total power consumption. This is poised to go up to over 50 per cent as it sets up more projects.
