Mitsubishi launches energy storage demonstration project
Mitsubishi Corporation reached a basic agreement with AES Corporation and Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL), which distributes electricity in northern and north-western Delhi, to develop an energy storage demonstration project in India. The project will be concentrated in the grid sectors operated by TPDDL.
Solar has many unique attributes which make it a preferred source of power, particularly in India, a densely populated country with a high energy deficit - where it can be rapidly deployed across most parts of the country, due to its modular nature and by virtue of it being environment friendly.
Transforming Rajasthan´s Discoms
IT has brought about tectonic shifts in the power sector and transformed distribution companies in the country. The benefits that IT brings are all pervasive change - improved operational efficiency, sustained cost reductions, enhanced consumer experience and so on.
The ´IT´ Factor
Digitalisation is just beginning to make real headway in India, what with the Centre´s ongoing focus on ´Digital India´. This coupled with the much propagated ´Make in India´ and ´Smart Cities´ initiatives are all set to pave the way for a smarter, advanced, Information Technology (IT) enabled country.
Leaps and Bounds
Transmission and distribution (T&D) losses, Aggregate Transmission and Commercial losses (AT&C), quality of power and fluctuation in power supply are some of the major challenges faced by Indian power utilities. This is despite not overlooking the fact that in the last decade, the country witnessed sizeable improvement in quality of power, especially in urban and semi-urban areas.
India Progressing Towards Optimum Energy Mix
The summer of 2017 promises to be a watershed year for India. While the government burns the midnight oil to introduce GST by start of the upcoming financial year, Piyush Goyal, Minister of State (I/C) Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy and Mines, is confident that all villages will be connected to the grid by May 2017.
ABB India and IIT Madras collaborate on micro-grid models
As part of the UDAY scheme, ABB India and IIT Madras will collaborate to develop a power management system to optimise the operation of multiple micro-grids, with and without grid connection, while managing electricity supply to villages.
