Indian mining can contribute Rs 11.25 lakh cr to GDP

India's mining sector has the capacity to contribute up to Rs 11.25 lakh crore to the gross domestic product (GDP) by 2025 and create 15 million jobs. A strategic plan document has been prepared by the Union government in this regard. The plan has been prepared based on the National Mineral Policy, 2008, the Union Mines Minister Dinsha Patel said this in Rajya Sabha on August 5.

Govt to ease clearance norms for coal mines

The Union environment ministry has decided to ease its clearance requirements for existing coal mines planning to increase production. Existing coal mines with plans to increase production by as much as a quarter of its current permissible production levels will be exempt from holding public hearings as part of the environment clearance process.
