Govt rejects Balco´s plea for Chhatisgarh mine
Government has rejected the request of Vedanta Group firm Bharat Aluminium Company Ltd (Balco) to accept its bid for the Gare Palma IV/1 coal mine in Chhatisgarh stating that it has no merit in it.

Sample this. Coal India, the much-reviled public sector coal behemoth, produced 462 mt of coal last year, with all the much-publicised legacy problems that it faces. The top seven global (private sector) mining giants together produced around 700 mt of coal last year (see Coal output by global players). And all of India´s private players produced a mere 50 mt of coal in 2014.
JSPL starts coal gasification plant at Angul
Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (JSPL) Phase-I capacity of the Angul steel making unit has touched 2.5 million tonnes and it aims to achieve its envisaged capacity of six million tonnes at its by the end of 2015. The coal gasification plant at Angul in Odisha has already started.
IMG for scrapping 30 captive coal blocks
An inter-ministerial group (IMG) tasked with suggesting punitive measures for holders idling their captive coal blocks is learnt to have recommended cancellation of 30 mines, making it the single biggest de-allocation so far. Apart from several major firms like JSPL, Essar Power, the Tata Group and Reliance are now understood to be included in the list.
