Govt nixes Coal-bed Methane project
The Tamil Nadu state government has denied permission to the Great Eastern Energy Corporation Limited (GEECL) to proceed with their Coal Bed Methane (CBM) extraction project, after accepting the report submitted by the technical experts´ committee constituted, under the chairmanship of the Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB), to study the impact of the project on environment, sea water intrusion, food security and livelihood of farmers in Cauvery delta region.
