Coal shortage at Mettur’s 600 MW unit
One of the thermal units at Mettur generating 600 MW has been shut down as the coal scheduled to arrive from West Bengal and Odisha has been delayed due to the floods in the mines.

Tamil Nadu to stop imported coal, save Rs.400 crore
Tangedco is set to stop importing coal for all thermal units in the state. With the stoppage of import, the discom will save at least Rs.400 crore per annum. This follows after the Centre agreed to increase the coal allocated to Tangedco thermal units.

SPIC plans equity investments in power generation companies
Southern Petrochemicals Industries Corporation Ltd (SPIC) is planning to invest in power generation companies in a move that would help the company save substantially on its power bill. The company said its annual power requirement of 110 MU is met Rs 6.90 per unit.

Manufacturing focus of the country needs more power
We have done capacity addition of 1,167 MW in utility segment and 631 MW in captive segment till September 2014. Another 2,103 MW has been synchronised, awaiting inputs from customers.
