Work on JK's first wind power plant to begin in 2017-18 fiscal
The work on Jammu and Kashmir's first wind power project, to be built in Reasi district at an estimated cost of Rs 46 crore, will begin in 2017-18 fiscal, Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu has said. National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE), an autonomous institute under MNRE, has identified a windy site at Bidda village in Reasi which has a potential to generate 25 MW power.

India moots four more giant PV projects totalling 2GW
India has announced 2GW worth of new large-scale solar projects. Following the success of India's JNNSM national solar mission, the government wants to see four "ultra mega solar power projects" each with a capacity of over 500 MW in 2014-15. The projects will be in Rajasthan, Gujarat and Jammu and Kashmir and form part of the JNNSM. Plans are already underway in India for a multi-stage 4GW ultra mega solar power project in Rajasthan. Sapphire extraction from Paddar mines to start soon
The Jammu and Kashmir government said the extraction of sapphire from famous Paddar mines will begin soon. "Global tenders for extraction of sapphire from the famous mines of Paddar Tehsil in Kishtwar district have been floated and the extraction will start shortly," Minister of State for Industries and Commerce Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo said. The residents of Paddar will benefit from the job opportunities that the extraction of sapphire will generate.
